Unbelievable week 1

Pastor Jason

The Point

When something looks too big to beat, look to God like David did. Worship Him. Stand up even without a title. Remember how He has helped before. Say, “THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S.”

See It

1 Samuel 17:1–16NIV

Look up 1 Samuel 17:1–16 in your Bible and read it quietly to yourself.

The Breakdown

God’s people and their enemies line up for battle, and Goliath steps out day after day to challenge and scare Israel, showing a giant who intimidates and shouts them down.

1 Samuel 17:26–27NIV

Look up 1 Samuel 17:26–27 in your Bible and read it quietly to yourself.

The Breakdown

David speaks up about God’s honor and asks what will be done for the one who fights, showing boldness and concern for the Lord even though he has no position.

1 Samuel 17:34–37NIV

Look up 1 Samuel 17:34–37 in your Bible and read it quietly to yourself.

The Breakdown

David tells how God rescued him from a lion and a bear. He trusts God to rescue him again and uses past help to build his trust now.

1 Samuel 17:45–47NIV

Look up 1 Samuel 17:45–47 in your Bible and read it quietly to yourself.

The Breakdown

David declares ahead of time that the Lord will give the victory and says the Lord does not save by sword or spear, so everyone will know the battle belongs to God.

Live It

Here's how to live out this message this week.

  • •When a problem at school or home screams “Unbelievable,” remember that “THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S”. Identify the next step of faith you need to take against that giant.
  • •When a test, game, or tough conversation seems bigger in your life than your belief in what God can do, worship God to set your faith up for courage.
  • •Tell a parent or friend one of your stories of God’s faithfulness, and remember it next time you face a giant.

Talk It Over Together

Parents: ask these at dinner or in the car this week.

  • •What giant in your life right now feels “unbelievable” to you, and why?
  • •What is one next step of faith you can take against that giant this week?

Explore It

Think these through on your own, or talk them over with someone.

  1. 1.What “giant” in your life feels bigger than your belief right now?
  2. 2.Where could you stand with conviction this week, even if you have no title or authority?
  3. 3.What is one of your stories of God’s faithfulness you can remember when you face a giant?
